A/AAAA Record Troubleshooting Checklist

A step-by-step guide for diagnosing and fixing missing or incorrect A/AAAA DNS records.

Diagnose your site now

Problem

Your domain is unreachable and a DNS lookup shows no A or AAAA records.

Top 3 Causes

  1. Records not created — A/AAAA records were never added in the DNS management panel.
  2. Wrong IP address — After a server migration, the old IP address is still configured.
  3. Nameserver mismatch — The domain’s NS records don’t point to the actual DNS hosting provider.

Diagnosis with DechoNet

  • DNS Lookup — Check whether A/AAAA records exist and verify their TTL values.
  • RDAP Lookup — Verify that nameservers are correctly configured.

Resolution Checklist

  • In your DNS management panel, add an A record with the correct server IPv4 address.
  • If your server supports IPv6, add an AAAA record as well.
  • After making changes, wait for the TTL duration to expire or flush your local DNS cache.
